Masters Series with Arthur Hnatek REPLAY

Arthur Hnatek (pronounced Na-tek), drummer/composer/electronica artist, is a 30 years old Swiss-born, award-winner, contemporary musician.

These days, he releases and performs electronic music, exploring acoustic improvisations and functional experimental club tracks.

The album "Static", released as the Arthur Hnatek Trio, is a celebration of the electronic culture in a jazz trio setting and has been received with high praises.  

He has also been seen drumming with (Nonesuch and ECM artist) Tigran Hamasyan or the Erik Truffaz's Quartet.

As an electronica artist, he has produced remixes for Manu Delago (Bjork), Tigran (Road Song EP), Eclecta, Matthieu Llodra Trio and Erik Truffaz among others. His project SWIMS debuted with a first EP in October 2017 on Susan Records. He has performed SWIMS at La Cigale (Paris), Label Suisse Festival or Montreux Jazz Festival to name just a few. In June 2020, he releases his first vinyl EP, published by Mouthwatering Records, followed by a series of singles throughout the year.  

On the side of his work as a leader, with Melismetiq, SWIMS or his trio (with which he won the ZKB Jazzpreis 2019 at Moods in Zürich), Arthur is an active sideman performing in a variety of styles. He has been seen performing with Shai Maestro, Gilad Hekselman, Dhafer Youssef, Donny McCaslin, Linda May Han Oh, Vincent Peirani, Gregoire Maret, Sophie Hunger just to name a few.

As a composer, he has written for orchestra, string quartets, chamber ensemble, big bands and small ensembles. Commissions have been received from the DKSJ band (2013: Lualuna Tai, music for 11 musicians) Puplinge Classique Festival (in 2013: Now for septet and piano), the Jeunesse Musicale of Switzerland (in 2014, Noèse for jazz trio and orchestra), the Geneva Brass Festival (2015, Postface for big band and brass quintet) and L'Orchestre Quipasseparlà in 2017. 

On the side of his musical projects, Arthur is an occasional dedicated teacher. He has lead masterclasses and ensembles in many music colleges around Europe.

He holds a bachelor degree from the New School for Jazz in New York City. His studies were made possible by the Leenaards Foundation grant. 

He lives today in Zürich.
