Alex Cohen was born and raised in New York City and began his studies at the world-renowned Drummer's Collective at age 12, where he studied with Fred Klatz, Jason Gianni, Mike Clark, and Dave Weckl.
At 14, Alex started playing professionally in NYC clubs and later was accepted to New York University for Jazz Studies.
He graduated Cum Laude and proceeded to embark on the life of a freelance musician. While in his 20s, Alex worked with bands ranging from Pyrrhon, Imperial Triumphant, Malignancy, Pyrexia, and Nader Sadek (subbing in for Derek Roddy) all the way to rapper Mac Miller.
Alex found his true calling in education and progressive drumming after posting a few practice videos on social media.
His first book, Ultimate Progressive Drumming, published on Hudson Music, has garnered praise from drummers ranging from Jason Bittner to Charley Drayton for its boundary-pushing approach.
Alex appears on the cover of Drumhead Magazine in July 2021 alongside international icons and peers Yoni Madar, Pete Drummond, Ramon Montagner, and Dylan Elise.
Alex proudly endorses Paiste Cymbals, Trick Pedals, and Los Cabos Drum Sticks.
